Cafes to Visit in Penang

by - March 01, 2017

Macallum Connoisseurs Coffee Co
1, Gat Lebuh Macallum, George Town, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang.

My favorite cafe, a refurbish warehouse turned into a cafe, this place serves an all day breakfast, pastas and burgers alongside a wide selection of coffees and juices.

We ordered Smoked Duck Breast with Citrus Sauce and Grilled Pork Burger. The burger was the bomb, it was juicy and and delicious. The duck was made up to perfection, it was incredibly rich, fatty then tender on the inside.

For the price paid, it was reasonably to me and the food was terrific.

Métisser Pâtisserie & Tea Room
140, Jalan Pintal Tali, George Town, 10100 George Town, Pulau Pinang.

Afternoon tea at Métisser Pâtisserie is simply divine. Indulge yourself with their afternoon tea set at RM88. Comes with tea finger sandwiches, warm butter scones, savory canapé, petite gateau chocolate truffles and macaroons and endless pots of tea.
JD Dog House Cafe
2233, Persiaran Mahsuri 1, Bandar Bayan Baru, 11950 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang.

If you're looking for a place to chill with pets, this is the place to be. This cafe is located near the airport, best to drop by once you've came in from the penang bridge or you can take 15 minutes drive from George Town.

The are 2 parts of the cafe, you can either choose to chill with dogs around or without dogs. The place was clean and the dogs were well trained.

Kota - when Francis meets rempah
Fort Cornwallis, Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah, 10200, Georgetown, Pulau Pinang.

A lovely cafe located inside Fort Cornwallis serving modern nyonya food. To get in you'll have to pay RM10 as entrance fees, you'll be given a RM10 voucher to use it at the cafe, the catch is you'll have to spend minimum RM20 to use the voucher.

Overall it was a pleasant experience, the service was excellent, staffs were at tentative, waiting timing for the food was short and most of all, the way the food was presented was beautiful.

We ordered two mains and two desserts.

Our mains were Ju Hu Char RM22 and Nyonya RM25. Ju Hu Char was simple, came with pie tee cups, sweet turnips and chicken. The nyonya was my favorite, the platting was beautiful, it has 3 layers,  rendang was on top, the fragrant coconut rice on the 2nd layer and the bottom was filled with otak otak.

For desserts we chose the Tang Yuan RM15 and Cream Brulee RM19. The tang yuan soup was made from gula melaka and surprisingly the tang yuan (glutinous rice balls) were really fresh, it wasn't too chewy and it's filled with black sesame and peanut fillings. Cream brulee on the other hand was very rich, comes in 3 diffrent flavors, black glutinous rice, pandan, gula melaka.
